Big are things expected for 2019 as Grimsby Garden Centre enlist the help of BBC Apprentice star and entrepreneur Elizabeth McKenna to work alongside the team. Elizabeth, who came fourth in the programme in 2017, offers up her wealth of business knowledge to help the garden centre continue to grow.

After initially purchasing the garden centre in October 2015, North East Lincolnshire’s mental health provider NAViGO – a not-for-profit social enterprise offering award-winning health care services – have made investments to improve the site and quality of stock.

Jo Keen, manager of Grimsby Garden Centre, said, “We’ve come a long way since we first purchased the garden centre. We’ve successfully integrated members and volunteers to learn from and work with our skilled staff, which has been one of our main priorities.

“Now we feel we have that right, we can really focus on the garden centre as a business, allowing us to reinvest the profits generated back into services to benefit the local community.

“I’d like to thank the garden centre team for being so on board, helping us to develop and grow.”

Elizabeth, who has been tasked with helping improve a number of key areas including customers’ shopping experience, said: “It’s an exciting project to work on as it’s not just your average garden centre operating as a business.

"Sitting under NAViGO as a mental health provider, it also allows us to look at how to better engage with service users and expand on how the garden centre can benefit them.

“I’m hoping my experience will help to drive the garden centre in the right direction and increase its prominence in the local community.”

Elizabeth will be hosting a number of events at Grimsby Garden Centre and Floral Hall including a spring bouquet arranging workshop in April, which will be available to book soon.

Elizabeth McKenna has worked across all levels, from trainee to director. She currently runs her own two businesses - Elizabeth McKenna Flowers and Lizzie’s Bundles - as well as attending events as an educational speaker.
