Did you know? Bees are most active in warm, sunny weather and can visit up to 5,000 flowers in a single day.
Lavender
Lavender’s beautiful purple blooms are a bee favourite. Plant it in full sun with well-drained soil. Once established, it needs very little water. Trim it back after flowering to keep it neat and encourage more growth.
Care tip: Lavender prefers dry conditions and will thrive with minimal watering once settled in. After flowering, cut back to remove dead stems and promote a bushier plant for next season. Lavender does well in pots, too!
Sunflowers
Sunflowers are the perfect plants to attract bees. They thrive in full sun, need regular watering, and tall varieties may need some support. Their bright, cheerful blooms are loved by bees all summer long.
Care tip: Give them lots of sun, regular water, and a little support for the tallest types — they’ll thank you by bringing in the bees all summer long. Sunflowers can be grown in pots, but larger varieties may need to be planted directly in the ground.
Echinacea (Coneflower)
With its bold, daisy-like blooms, echinacea is a must for attracting bees. It prefers full sun and well-draining soil. Once established, it doesn’t need much water.
Care tip: Don’t overfeed it! A bit of light pruning in spring will keep it looking fresh and fabulous all season long.
Rosemary
A herb with a buzzing reputation, rosemary offers both flavour for your kitchen and a feast for pollinators! It loves full sun and well-drained soil, and while it’s fairly drought-tolerant, it does appreciate regular watering, especially during those warm summer months.
Care tip: Prune it lightly after flowering to keep it bushy and thriving. Plus, it smells delish!
Borage
With its striking blue flowers and a knack for attracting bees, borage is a true garden hero. It loves full sun and regular watering, so make sure the soil is well-drained. It also self-seeds, which means you’ll be welcoming back more bees each year!
Care tip: Don’t let borage get too carried away — trim back overgrown plants to keep them in check.
