Making more than your garden green

Making more than your garden green - blog header

Grimsby Garden Centre are committed to making more than just your garden green.

From the beautiful nursery to its popular Potting Shed eatery, a range of continuous improvements are making the ever green garden centre more environmentally friendly including:

The introduction of biodegradable plant pots that can be recycled along with your usual plastic kerb side collection.

  • Biodegradable carrier bags.
  • All takeaway packaging used in The Potting Shed is produced from plant-based products and is 100% compostable.
  • To reduce the amount of food waste, The Potting Shed is signed up to the Too Good To Go initiative, offering surplus food for a reduced price.
  • Taking advice from the HTA (Horticultural Trades Association) to phase out all peat products used and sold.
  • Encouraging customers to take home plants that may be past their best and may otherwise go to waste by offering them at a massively reduced rate.

Jo Keen, NAViGO’s Head of Employment and Commercial Services said, “We recognise the importance of making the garden centre greener and we’re excited that these small changes are a step in the right direction for us.”

“We’re actively looking for ways we can improve our recycling options and reduce our waste and energy consumption.”

Grimsby Garden Centre’s development plans, given the go-ahead by council planners include innovative green additions such as repurposing shipping containers to create a unique shopping hub and feature entrance, as well as encouraging eco-friendly travel with the installation of electric car charging points in the new car park.
